The Daily Orange
Most of my work as a Syracuse-area journalist has been published with Syracuse University’s independent, student-run student newspaper. Being a D.O. staffer has given me the resources to try new things and expand my reporting abilities. My best work is linked below, but visit my full writers’ page for more clips.
Feature Writing
I’m at my happiest when I’m around people, learning what makes them tick and how they connect to the world around them. From drag queens to 94-year-old hockey players, I’ve gotten to write about some of central New York’s most colorful characters.
Salt City Slay: Meet some of the contestants of Saturday night’s Salt City Drag Battle
Community members say Ben Walsh’s administration must work with Latinx groups on and around the Hill
Syracuse University’s spookiest story? Human remains may be stored in a wall in Newhouse 1.
Syracuse Gray Wolves prove age is no match on the hockey rink
News Writing
Working as an assistant news editor helped me sharpen my news judgment and further develop a sense of which trends and issues were most relevant to the SU community. My best work included a profile on SU’s former sustainability education coordinator and pieces related to drug research and use on campus.
Meet Rachel May, Syracuse’s next state senator
Experts, students weigh in on the effects of Juuling
SU researchers found that cannabis won’t reduce the intensity of your pain
Spot News
Whether it’s a concert, a lecture or a protest, I’m comfortable reporting breaking news right as it’s happening, both on my own and with a team. I was the first-ever D.O. writer to cover Governors Ball in 2018, and I’ve taken a direct role in coverages when current events result in small- and large-scale gatherings.
Democrats win New York state Legislature elections in Onondaga County
SU Jewish community mourns Pittsburgh mass shooting
Service Stories
Throughout my time at The D.O. I’ve been able to execute different story formats to best present the information at hand. Writing these pieces in particular involved research on complex issues, or gathering reporting from across lots of different locations, then breaking down the facts in a practical manner.

The controversy surrounding the replacement plans for Interstate 81, explained
The ins and outs of central New York apple and seasonal fruit picking
