The Journal News/lohud

During the summer of 2018, I worked as lohud’s first-ever commuter reporter and shaped my beat through many a train ride and hour after hour at crowded stations. My best work is below, but visit my full writers’ page for more clips.

People

I crossed paths with some interesting characters during my ten weeks riding the Metro-North and navigating the subways, and thought on my feet to tell their stories in alternative forms. My most notable experiences included getting to know a musical train conductor and a number of buskers.

Places

Hundreds of thousands of lohud’s readers travel through Grand Central Terminal every day. As a commuter reporter, one of my goals was to tell them new stories about the transportation hub. I experimented with my multimedia skills to do this and wrote about the evolution of the historic space.

Things

More often than not, this internship consisted of me commuting back and forth, observing what when on around me and then constructing a narrative about it. Here are some examples of my best work doing so.
